The first single from the album will be "Cochise". Tom Morello's commented on the single saying:
Band guitarist Tom Morello commented on the track saying: "Cochise was the last great American Indian chief to die free and absolutely unconquered. When several members of his family were captured, tortured, and hung by the U.S. Cavalry, Cochise declared war on the entire Southwest and went on an unholy rampage, a warpath to end all warpaths. He and his warriors drove out thousands of settlers. Cochise the Avenger, fearless and resolute, attacked everything in his path with an unbridled fury. This song kinda sounds like that."
The video for the single will be shot soon directed by Mark Romanek (nine inch nails).

Other info

Official Audioslave website

The album "Audioslave" was recorded at Oceanway Studios in Los Angeles with producer Rick Rubin. The label was quick to point out that the tracks that were recently leaked to the Internet were just rough demos and "obviously, these tracks are not representative of the final album, as they were rehearsal demos."

An Audioslave section on this site will be developed in the coming weeks. Please do not email me any questions about Audioslave as everything I know is listed here. The site will be updated much more frequently over the next few weeks as more information about Audioslave becomes available.

RATM/Cornell update
August 27, 2002

It does seem now that the RATM/Cornell collaboration is still going to happen. There have been numerous reports that the new band will go under the name 'Audioslave'. It is not official at this stage but it does look like the collaboration will go ahead. There is also no official word on whether or not the demo's leaked onto the internet will be used in the groups first release or whether the group will record additional tracks.

RATM/Cornell reunited?
July 3, 2002

There are currently rumours floating around that the RATM/Cornell collaboration is back on with the group seeking new management. Whether or not the band will be together to perform at Ozzfest as originally planned is uncertain.

RATM/Cornell leaked onto internet
May 24, 2002

It's almost old news but I have been in two minds whether or not to post this info at all. After months of hearing about the Rage Against The Machine and Chris Cornell collaboration finally 13 demo tracks have been leaked onto the web. The tracks are unmixed but the legitimacy of the tracks has been confirmed. Seeing as how it has been such a long wait for RATM fans just to hear something from the RATM/Cornell project I have decided to make available 6 of the tracks for download that can be accessed here.

It has officially been reported that the RATM/Cornell album will be released at sometime in the near future so once a date for that release is confirmed the tracks will be removed.

RATM/Cornell split is official
April 2, 2002

It is official that the RATM/Cornell collaboration is finished. Cornell has left the new group with the reason for the split unclear at this stage apart from some speculation that Cornell was not happy with the changing styles the group was producing. It does look as though the album the band were working on will be released although a release date is not know at this stage.

RATM/Cornell split?
March 24, 2002

It is not official at this stage but there are rumours floating around that the RATM / Chris Cornell collaboration has ended before it even began. This follows the apparent withdrawal of the group from Ozzfest. This IS NOT official and I will update the site as soon as I hear more on this.

Thanks to Mattia for some info on this.

The latest Ozzfest / Civilian
March 20, 2002

Due to some legal issues, the new group featuring former members of Rage Against The Machine along with Chris Cornell, were not able to fully secure the rights to the name Civilian, and as such are currently deciding upon a new moniker. At present the band are finishing up some studio work on their forthcoming debut expected out in the summer/fall through Epic and are slated to play the Main Stage of this years Ozzfest.

This was sent in by dozens of people. Thanks to Mark Rawlins for sending me the basic summary from mxtabs.com

Grammys / Civilian / Live Album / Zack
March 1, 2002

For Those of you who don't know already RATM did not win the grammy for best Hard Rock performance. The grammy was taken out by Linkin Park for 'Crawling'.

There has been NO WORD on the latest regarding RATM/Cornell/Civilian or whatever you want to call it. The release date of their upcoming album is unknown and the rumours of a summer tour with Tool are not true.

The RATM live album looks like it will be released on March 19 as it is now listed as an upcoming release on CDNOW.com. You can pre-order the album now by clicking here. However, I cannot say for sure that this date won't be pushed back.

In some news related to Zack's solo debut, Zack along with Gorillaz member-producer Dan "The Automator" Nakamura have laid down 8-tracks. This is what Dan had to say about it:
"Maybe none of them will make it on the record," Nakamura told allstar. "Obviously, I hope they do, but you never know. We'll see." Nakamura describes the sound as "kind of like if the Country Bear Jamboree was angry."

When asked if we can assume that means that De La Rocha's still yelling as fiercely as ever, Nakamura responded, "No, we thought we'd work more on his Judy Garland angle. He's expressing his Judy Garland side that didn't always make it through on the [Rage] albums."
